New Zealand Boosts Its Investment in Teachers

Although it can be difficult for South Africans to immigrate to New Zealand and Australia, it is possible to find a way in if you have certain skills and work in particular high-demand vocations. A recent change in government policy in New Zealand, for example, has opened the door for qualified teachers to apply for their visas.

New Zealand Government Wants 1500 New Teachers

New Zealand’s Education Minister, Erica Stanford announced last week that the government is set to make a “major investment in teacher supply.” This investment would take the form of an expenditure of NZ$53 million over the course of four years, with the aim of recruiting 1500 new teachers.

The Education Ministry will meet this quota through a number of different strategies. While it will seek to train more teachers locally, it will also offer support for 300 teachers from abroad to relocate to New Zealand through Overseas Relocation Grants. It will also fund 425 Overseas Finders Fees to assist with the costs of recruiting teachers from abroad. These measures will provide excellent opportunities for teachers from all over the world – including South Africa – to find a way into New Zealand.

How To Take Advantage of This Opportunity

South African teachers who have been thinking of New Zealand immigration should take hold of this opportunity as soon as possible. Competition for the 300 open teachers’ posts is likely to be quite fierce.

In this situation, teachers would fall into the Skilled Migrant Category. Provided you are in good health, can prove that you are of good character, speak English, are under 55 years of age, and have qualifications and experience in education, you can take advantage of this golden opportunity.
